How's it going. I have a dilemma I cannot decide wether to weld my spider gears or buy an LSD for my 240. I am a cheapskate fabricator so welding them appeals to me more. The one problem is that welding them is not NHRA legal, I plan on using the car for the drags but not alot and my times wont be quick enough to get noticed. Tire wear is not an issue. I know welded diffs are harder to drive on touge or mountain drifting, but I don't plan on much of that.

Any opinions on the Phantom grip addon LSD spider gear block system?

i used to daily an ae86 with one and it wasnt too bad. chirping the tires in tight low speed corners was the only thing really.

fully locked rears do put more stress on axles...just something to consider

Good weight distribution and airing the tires to their needs works wonders over an LSD in a straight line ;) So I would have to agree!

That is why we run spools in our dragcars huh! LoL I am going to use this car for drifting also. It is much easier to drift with an lsd or solid diff, even though i use an open one now. Upgrades upgrades!

wow noob question. its just preference vs. funding when do you want it locked and how much do you have to spend?

you can get a J20 VLSD for like 200 bucks...

i disagree. espescially if your running slicks. 9 times out of 10 a car will only spin 1 tire with an open diff and slicks. on street tires...different story. you can get street tires to lay down 2 solid stripes with pre-loading of a sway bar, tire pressure, and height/weight adjustments.

slicks will grip no matter what, and with an open diff, the tire that grips first...gets all the power. end of story. both tires will not grip the same on slicks.

also welded diff's are illegal in NHRA and illegal at NHRA tracks (firebird) if you for some reason brake an axle while going down the track it will send you instantly into the wall. ive seen it happen and the rule is there for good reason.

but he's not going to be breaking axles with a stock 240.

As I stated before I know it is not legal for the NHRA. I have pretty much answered my own question LSD. I don't want to be booted from the track for something likes this. Yes I don't have enough powa to break axles. I am perfectly capable of doing this mod myself and I don't understand why this is a noob question. Enlighten me please. Where can I get that infiniti VLSD?

Because if you can afford a real lsd why wouldn't you get it? Viscous sucks but it's better than open and a welded drifts better so it's simply opinion.

Welding is free! I am a cheapskate remember! I'm gonna wait and do it right. Anybody have an LSD fo sale?

omg its drunk scott.

ive never really drifted a car with an lsd, but i have with a welded and i can say i loved the predictability/low maintenance of it. i wasnt worried about breaking anything either though.
