I have a part of my property that I want to completely sterilize (think of a gravel road). What should I use?

Ha.....the same thing I told you to use on IMS :)

For your gravel road I would use Casoron Granules or if you want something a bit stronger I would use the granular Noxall. Here is a link for the products. You can get either one at your local garden center (please support them and not your big box stores that, for the most part, are not knowledgeable about the products that they are selling you.) http://www.lillymiller.com/weed_control.html. Most Round up will only be a temporary solution and does not have any residual effect once it is in the soil. It will only control what existing weed that you already have. Casoron and Noxall are both a Pre-Emergent meaning it will prevent any weeds from growing for up to a year or more depending on how much water you have flowing through the area. Don't waste your time and money applying Round Up all year long. Now is the time to get either of those two products on the ground/in the soil. You need to do it before the weeds begin actively growing.

Casoron is also safe to use around any plants that have a woody stem (trees, shrubs, roses. raspberries, etc) for weed control all year long. just be careful when using it really close to a lawn area/around trees in a lawn. I've seen it leach out and do some damage the the grass in some cases (depending on the slope and how the water runs.)

For weed control around other plants such as annuals and perennials you can use a product called Preen.

Also, spraying Puncturevine aka goatheads will not control the problem of the goat heads if they have gone to seed. You will only be killing the plant and leaving the seeds do drop off and remain in the soil.

No worries. Get it on soon if you are going to. It will only prevent weeds that aren't growing yet.

I should be throwing down some grass seed pretty soon on a part of my lawn that I've prepped via shovel and metal rake (fuck-ton of work, I don't wish to do it again...)

I had planned on putting the seed out, watering the hell out of it and hoping for the best. Anything special I should do/know before I go about trying to accomplish this? This is my first attempt at anything like this...

VIPGirl and I had Mike do some work for us last year. I would recommend him to anyone, for landscaping! He helped us pick out all kinds of stuff to help put our yard together in front of the house.

In case didn't already say it? THANKS Mike!
