Assistante por favor! Ok, so it smells like gas after a few tries, turning over fine, haven't pulled plugs yet but that is my next step. How could I tell if my ignitor is bad? I've heard that it will spark but at the wrong time, or not spark at all, is that right? How can I tell if it's sparking at the wrong time? Also, is this the D16DOHC or B18? I thought it was the B18, but I'm only coming up with D16DOHC as an option when looking at ignition parts online... Also, the coil is in the cap, so why can I order a coil separate on acurapartsoem.com? I'm getting a bit confuZed...

so what is? b18 or d16? what does it say on the block?
take out one plug, stick it back into the cable and put it on a metal surface. if there is spark, good, but there probably wont be. replace the WHOLE dizzy.

if its an 89 its a d16a1 which is a 1.6 liter dohc
the b18 was first introduced in 1990
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Integra#First_generation_.281986.E2.80.93198 9.29
and like i said in your other thread, test for spark first and then go from there, if you have no spark...its most likely the coil or the ignitor...you can test those as well, to make sure thats your problem.

Thanks for that clarification. So, from what I remember from someone trying to sell one, the d16a1 is worth absolutely dick right?

its not a bad motor by any means, it just doesnt swap into other cars...its the black sheep of the honda motor family. i built an n/a d16a1 close to 10 years ago and it ran really well...ran even better on the bottle :)

Its worth something to those who own the 86-89 Integras. Other than that, your right.

Ok, Friday I'll get pics and post up just to get a 100% on the engine. Cuz if it's a B18 I want it, but if D16A1, not. Plan to rip it out for a possible future EF project.

well i promise its a d16a1, if its an 89. a b18 wont swap into that chassis without motor mounts, and the same goes for the d16a1 into an ef. like i said its a real bastard motor/chassis.

So are any of the parts worth anything? Like will the head bolt up to other D-series'? Also, what is a reasonable price for a OEM dist? I've seen from $100 for "God knows which Chinese factory this came from" brand, to almost $400. And I'm smart enough to listen when everyone and their dog tells me to get genuine parts.

the exhaust ports are mismatched a little bit from a regular d, to the d16a1...most likely the header is for a regular d-series as its really hard to come by stuff specifically for a d16a1....
as for the dizzy, dont waste your time on a NEW dizzy...the most common problems are ignitor and coil (internal on an 88-89, external on 86-87) if it were me, i would just find a coil and ignitor from a junkyard or maybe shenrie has one that fits. (im not exactly sure what style of ignitor/coil these cars use...mine was an 87...little bit different)
i cant see spending more than 40 bucks to get that dizzy working again....let alone xxx.xx

Still going off the assumption it's a 89, with a D16A1, It just has cast iron mani, no header. How well do these engines handle boost? How much would be too much on stock internals? What kinda power with that boost+mild gasket match port? Also, would it go into an EF if I had the motor mounts from the DA? Dizzy appears to have the coil inside, under cover... IDK... U get the idea. Insert all other power hungry Honda newb questions...

Ok, here's a pic of the best angle I could get, to see the stamp on the head... Maybe a couple of you Honda gurus could give me a little help IDing this thing.

yeah... good luck getting your head in there... oh well fuck it. anybody think this is worth looking into? The guy who owns it is thinking he'll be able to get over $200 for junking it or crushing it... He's a dealer, but most I've ever gotten at the recycling plant was $35 and that was for a truck... How much would the car be worth if it was in good running shape? Like maybe $700? Not worth my time to deal with.

what do you mean good luck getting your head in there? you can see the engine code on the block from 6 feet away!
as far as what its worth...look up blue book value and go from there. a non-running car is still worth 200-500 bucks. most i ever got from a junkyard was 50 bucks for a crx i took there looooong time ago.

Oh, BTW, I did check for spark, and it is getting spark, now if it's not getting enough, or at the right time, i think is anyone's guess... Anybody got a good alt they could let me try out on it before going and spending $xx.xx? BTW, where exactly should I get one from? Schuck's? Or the Honda dealership?

Maybe on a DC2... But this thing has the radiator support about 4" in front of the valve cover, at the same height as the VC... Maybe if I had a fiber optic periscope i could see it. Oh well, assuming it's the bone stock 89, with a D16A1, how much is a new dist and where? I don't wanna go to the junkyard because of the likelihood of getting another bad one. Where should I go to get one with a return policy?
