I have been looking into making an easy, quick swap out exhaust to go from fully muffled/catted to a short side exit. I was thinking about going to a V-band flange for this.
Anybody have experience in this? Are they easy to weld on? Seal good? Just any input would be great.

i use it. i didnt have to weld it, my turbo came with one. makes taking the DP off a breeze and they seal just fine. :)

As long as you're careful to not warp them when you are welding them on, then they seal awesome. Just do the welds in short 1/2" or 1" sections, going from one side to the other, and it will be fine. They are great for being able to take your exhaust apart very quickly, and they look sexy. I will do my next exhaust on my Scirocco with v-band connections. Right now it's just a 1-piece downpipe with a 3-bolt flange connecting it to a 1-piece exhaust that I can't remove without either cutting it off or unbolting and fully dropping my rear axle.

ive used them on every turbo car ive built. now i do have to say, they maybe 1 bolt, but they can be cumbersome. you have to get them completely lined up together in order to tighten the flange down....now if it were 2 pieces of large exhaust you would need to hold one end up in order to bolt the other end on.....really a pain in the ass if your on your back under your car. i honestly think the traditional 3 bolt flange is much easier to work with in that instance. (from my many experiences under a car at firebird unbolting my exhaust)
also you have to completely undo the entire length of the threads on a v-band for it to seperate....prepare for lots of wrenching! a ratcheting box wrench is worth its weight in gold here...
the absolute easiest solution IMO is to make a piece of pipe that is removable...between your downpipe and exhaust (like a cat) i did that on my civic and it was by far the easiest to work with (with traditional 3 bolt flanges on each side.)
