So I thought I'd post up my pile -

85' RX-7 -
Built 5.0 ford V8, custom built big single turbo system (Greddy T-78), side exit exhaust directly off the turbo and dumped behind DS front tire, full SDS stand alone EMS, dyno tuned to 10 PSI (ran it on the old ISC dyno 113 times)- made 450 HP and 500 ft lbs of torque. Future plans are to to tub the rear with a 9" rear end, and get some 325's under the back (traction is uh, limited...), then turn up the boost to hit 500 hp on the ground.

Car is loud, violent and angry. I love it.

Made these headlights with foam, fiberglass, and bondo. Was a bitch -

When we corner weighed it - 2400 lbs

The cars been sitting all winter, waiting for better weather, and since I have been working on my Honda-motor-into-a-classic-mini project, the RX-7 has been a little neglected. :tear: I still have tons I want to do on it.

I love this car. It's in a league of its own.
Have you raced it out at firebird?

I haven't taken it out yet. The car has huge traction issues - I can light the tires up at 75 mph on the freeway. Plus the mazda rear end gear ratio is not right for the v8, and my top speed is way lower than it should be. I would roast the tires the whole length of the track, and pull a lame time, so until I tub it, I haven't bothered.

If you calculate the the weight and horsepower into a 1/4mile time it theoretically should run a 10.2, but who knows how accurate those things are (plus my driving skill is not perfect by any means :greddy2: ).

Very logical answer. I see your point. Well get to Tubing!

This is a really cool car that is done right!

Look forward to seeing it again in person.

Like Austin said. Time to TUB!

You can bracket a 9" or 8" and bolt it in. I've done a couple using the 8" out of a pinto or mustang II. Measure the location and angle of the brackets cut them off and weld to new rear end.

Your s/n makes all the sense in the world now. And I love that you chose a 5.0 instead of an SBC (me being a Ford guy at heart).

Can I ask what your motivation was to use the Ford offering vs. the Chevy? Just strictly out of curiosity.

Regardless, car is very nice.

I chose the ford because at the time I picked up the car, that was the swap kit that was available. Plus fords are easy to work on and relatively cheap to mod (Chevy motors are too, but I just ended up going the blue oval route). Not only that, but a cammed 5.0 idling gives me half stock. The company I used has since branched out and offers SBC kits, and even V6 kits from both Chevy and Ford.

I have a 9" housing, and plan on back halving the car in my garage. Should be an interesting adventure.....

The car is wicked but the owner is questionable.

Oh, I will be enjoying it this summer - the mini has taken all funds / time, so the rx7 is drivable for the summer months. I actually drove it today.

Thanks for the props, gentleman.

Very nice looking car. Very clean. I'd love to have a setup like that.
