put it into production, looks like and easy swap for a subaru,

but somehow i know this will never be in a car you can purchase, newer more environmentally friendly technologies are the way to go

I would do it... especially when it's only so big and it's like a v8...

that would be pretty sick, but I have a feeling it won't make it's way on the production line...

cool idea but I wanna see it running

i agree. this would've been cool if it was invented in the 80's or sometime when gas/pollution wasn't as big of a concern as today.

like so many concept engines. I'll believe it when i see it in production.

It is a good design.

I like this one as well.

iv been reading about this (opoc) engine in popular science since the early 1980's. its a wonderful idea, but its still a two stroke. no doubt it could produce a tremendous amount of torque for its size, but it will never be as efficient as an ohv 4 stroke.

and that myt engine... i dont buy that for a second.

two stroke probably wouldnt pass emissions. and i thought sti,s are horizintally opposed

STI's (and most Subarus & Porsches) have horizontally opposed, but the difference is that outside piston. Each cylinder in the concept engine actually has two pistons in it, rather than one piston per cylinder.

I don't think it will ever hit the streets. As the reporter asked the old guy, "how did you know how large to make the combustion chamber" and the old guy says "well, we are still working on that". If this concept has been around since the 80's and they still don't have that down, it won't pass concept. Definately a great idea, but I don't think it will be very efficient compared to what's already out there.

Except for Mr. Wankel's Rotary engine, nobody has ever built a new engine that made it into a production car. The 4-stroke ISN'T a simple engine... you've got a ton of moving parts. There has got to be a better and more efficient way out there, somehow, through internal combustion. There's always going to be naysayers for different technologies, but at least somebody is out there, trying something new.

don't get drawn into thinking 2-strokes are horrible polluting engines because the ones in motorcycles and really horrible euro cars happen to be..

two strokes in general are not any more of a polluting engine than any other. but like a wankel they are fuel hogs and they run on a gas oil/mixture. thats a little harder to clean up in the exhaust, but has been refined and can be just as clean as a conventional gas 4 cycle.

two strokes usualy make almost twice the power as a similarly sized four stroke. thats because they fire twice as often. thus, consume twice as much fuel.

the reporter also asked about gas mileage, all the guy had to say was some estimated ridiculously high efficiency number. common man.. if you wanna sell your motor, build one and make it work in a people carrier. people arnt going to buy an idea. they will buy a working product.
