Meet Bart! My 2004 Honda Ruckus Build Thread! (Updated 3/01/2010) NEW PIX

So, with spring and warm weather coming and me getting more serious about riding the Ruckus, I figured I'd start a build thread to track my progress. I bought this 04 Ruckus from Billboard in October. His name is Bart, named by Billboard b/c he's yellow like Bart Simpson, and although he won't remain yellow forever, he'll forever remain known as Bart.

I haven't decided exactly what the plans are for him, but I've started to pick up some parts to get the ball rolling. As with my Z, I'm going for a JDM style with plenty of JDM parts. He's pretty slow right now, but I'm looking for a newer motor, and if all goes well I'll order one by the end of the week, and get him up to speed soon!

Nope. I got silver. I wanted black, but they are pretty impossible to come by right now. The guy at Bowls told me yesterday he doesn't even think they're making black anymore. The worst thing is I missed out on a set on the forum the other day by hours :( But yeah, there's a decent chance I'll powdercoat the lower bar black, but it kind of depends on the color scheme I decide to go with for the rest of the scooter. I need to figure that out first before I start changing colors of the other parts.

Oh yeah, what kinda mileage and top speed do you get on that thing?

Mileage is supposed to be about 108, although I haven't checked it myself yet. Top speed right now is about 32-33, but it should be quicker. The motor that I'm thinking about picking up is an 07 and held 45 for the owner.

That seems pretty reasonable to me, but if you look around you can prob find a better deal. They go for about $2500 new, including taxes and registration, etc. They were running cheaper in the fall, but the prices seem to be picking up again now that spring is coming.

i got an 2003/red in color (284 miles!)... i have yet to name the ruckus... i havent really gotten to know it--- its too fucking cold in IF to ride... but in due time... pretty much gonna roll stock, with ncy seat lowering and frame brace with pegs... relocate battery and speedo... then possibly a new exhaust for a couple extra mph's... maybe a sticker or two... Lols...

Yeah, I've been debating whether or not that is something I'd want to get. I think they look pretty cool but I'm not sure I want one yet. A carbon fiber one would be pretty cool though!

I've got the hog torn apart while I shave the rear taillight mount and while I relocate the speedo to the battery box, so I'll get some pics when I get it back together.

I've also got an R6 taillight on the way, and have a Paranoid Fabrications mounting bracket waiting for it.

I was never selling him b/c I didn't want a Ruckus. I was just going to take the money and get a different color, probably white. Figured that'd be easier than undergoing a color change, but I'll just keep him and paint him now.

I was all stoked for nice weather to get my ruck out today- but no, rain rain and more rain. I did manage to ride to lowe's to buy some bolts though... Its funny how much weather affects these rucks- only got to like 38, opposed to the usual 42-43..

Yeah I'm curious too. For some reason I'm not able to picture it all back together.

I don't think I've seen the baby blue camo, but sounds cool. For some reason I can picture a color that would come on a pair of pants from Gen-X Clothing! Haha.

Here's a pic of it as it sits now. I got the rear frame bolted back up, and the engine and rear shock installed. The engine is about half-way hooked up, but I got cold and bitched out on finishing it yesterday.

Also, I had to send a couple parts back to have the clear coat re-done, so that's why I'm running behind. Hopefully I can get it all back together and running this week.

I hate the drag bars. I don't like how they look or feel. But it's my stem that makes mine so high. I just don't want to get the Password JDM stem like EVERY other ruckus in town!

Well, MB helped me get Bart back together this afternoon. He started up on the first try, and we got everything together except for the headlights. I just need to do a little touch up work on brackets and then I'll put them on.

I can't ride him yet since a couple of the fork bolts stripped, so I'll get new ones tomorrow, and he should be back on the streets this week! I can't wait.

The problem with new wheels is that you have to get new forks. And a disk brake kit, or at least an adapter. And sometimes spacers. And a speedometer adapter thingy....It ends up costing a small fortune to do that! I'd like to at some point, but prob won't be dropping that kind of cash on it anytime soon.
