yea i had a speedlight 200 on my d70 but sold it with camera. my d40 works for me im no pro and i never print big pics. but i do want that d90 with camcorder mode it looks nice

Thanks Mirko, the flash is a little to hot. But it it is not over exposed in pp.
I have a 430 ex flash. Do I need to get triggers to get it to work off the camera? I want a 208 photo meet so bad, need more camera time.

my friend told me the D90 owns the d200 in quality and the d200 is a a prosumer camera, he uses it as his family camera, so i would definitively rock a d90, and he happens to be a porno photographer lol

Comparing d90 to d200 and it's processor is like comparing a water-gun with a 50caliber FN Snuper rifle...

The D90 is a far superior camera to the D200 in almost every way. The only things the D200 has on the D90 is the weather sealed magnesium body, metering capability with Ai and AiS lenses, and the 5fps. The D90 has superior image quality, far better dynamic range, awesome high ISO capability, much better battery life, and for some the video function.

If I had to pick one, I would honestly choose the D90 (and not at all for the video function, which I don't think I would ever use).

I was refering to D300... my bad... D200 is too old to compete and they use the old processor....

Oh yeah. The D300 is superior. The D90 is slightly better at high ISO's (and I mean VERY slightly) and has slightly better dynamic range (and again, just SLIGHTLY) because it is newer by about a year. D300 would definitely be my choice out of those two, although I wouldn't buy either right now, as the expected replacement to the D300 (D400) is supposed to be announce at PMA in just a couple of weeks.

The colors are whack and completely washed out and everything is overexposed... you were supposed to underexpose that shot by a lot more on your +0....

It's a gray car... Every other color in the spectrum attracts more attention... it's a neutral car... if I make the photo more "vibrant" or "colorfull" it would take away from the car and concentrate the eye to other parts of the photo... that's why you use low depth of the field...

Im want people to notice the car and it's surrounding after the car...

It is still possible to fuck up an exposure just because you have a D700 and you used the meter. If you're not using the right metering setting (spot, matrix, etc.) in the correct situation, you will get a poorly exposed photo. That "HDR" looks way over exposed, and the HDR doesn't help it at all. Seriously, most pro's don't use HDR at all, and if they do, they use it in moderation, just to get some some highlight/shadow detail that they couldn't get with the camera alone. And they also don't do the bullshit "single RAW HDR" shit either, they will actually bracket the exposures and blend them in photoshop. These HDR's you're doing won't help you get into a photography school, but getting properly exposed photos, and doing good, subtle adjustments to your photos will. I'm not trying to "hate on you nigga" I'm just trying to help you out, because I know that this is something you want to do, just like I do, and I have gotten a lot of real good help from some working pro's that I know. If you don't want people commenting, whether it be positive or negative, then don't post, plain and simple. I'm just trying to help you out, and I'm saying that those HDR's look terrible. Your D700 has such a wide dynamic range that when you properly expose the photo, it doesn't need any HDR treatment, as most of the detail in the scene will already be there.

Ectually, the exposure on the car is spot on. If you will look, there is no loss of detail in the car except for right around the front license plate holder. The sky is definitely blown out, but the car has full detail (and if it looks dark, it's because it's a black car). And yes, there is lens flare, and lots of it. I was pretty limited on when I could shoot, and it was out of my control, so there is flare because of the angle of the sun and the road we were driving on to get downtown. Also, my 5-year old camera doesn't quite have the dynamic range of your D700, but I make it work (and make plenty of money from it).

Please, come back to me once you've paid off ALL $8000 of your equipment and actually made money off your photography. I'm the one that's trying to help you, but if you want to play your little high school "I'm not going to take criticism" bullshit, I'll just stop helping, because obviously it's not getting through.

you dont get it. im not in it to make money, i realized by my 3rd seinor shoot i would never really make money in this god for saken town. you dont see many of my other pictures i do for the school, since they are boring, they are normal. just sharpened and saturation and im done. the car pics, i love to play around with.

but i will always do pictures stuff on the side, its just something i wont lose interest in. but i am no means in it for massive amounts of money.

maybe we should stop bein haters and shoot together or something, after all, we are the only ones with nikons :D

I'd be down for going out and shooting with you Charles. Like I said, I'm not hatin' on you, I'm just trying to help you out, give you some constructive criticism. And there is plenty of ways to make money in the Treasure Valley with photography, you've just got to be creative and market yourself well. I've managed to sell single photos for as much as $1500 to magazines so far, and single large prints for as much as $500, not to mention my little brother's soccer games, senior shoots, and all the weddings I'm booked for this summer.

And as a side note, my Mamiya m645 1000s just arrived today. Going to be my main landscape camera once I get used to it and I get a film scanner. That and pick up a wide angle lens for it, as right now all I have for it is a 110mm f/2.8, which is the equivalent of 70mm in 35mm film terms. I'm on the lookout for a decently priced 35mm or 45mm lens.

those were taken in Freak Alley...the alley kinda behind pie hole downtown. if you go down just about any of the alleys downtown they have some good graffiti. i learned something new about freak alley last night...apparently every so often they paint over everything and make new graffiti....

Lighting setup:

Sun behind and to the left (car is in shade)
Sigma 500DG with triggres photo right at 1/4 power diffused and pointing down at about a 45 degree angle.

that's it... it's all about using the proper sides of the building for diffusion. The flash didn't do much since the car is black, but it popped the front lip a bit...
