Ok This has been bugging me since I saw the sale thread.
Guy on another forum is selling staggered (narrow front, wide back) Enkei's for a good price. He says that a lot of AWD'ers are using Staggered wheels for performance on the track. I have to call BS cause wouldn't that put more stress on the transfer case?
If not then I might buy these :)

I know edwin and brian ran or still are running bigger tires on the front of there evo's compared to the rear...helped with handling.... but I would think it would put extra stress on your trans....

i could see how the diameter would affect that , but the width, please explain.... its not clicking for me
thought when i hear staggered i usually think of like a 18 up front and a 19 in the back, i;ve never thought of width being a stagger

staggered is width son... From what Ive read people have done it but they usually put the wider ones in front... and in my opinion that would look like complete ass on your car lol... I say save up and get some non staggered rpf1's
omg its drunk scott.

Well fuck those people... god damn 18's in the front 19's back bullshit!!!
There is only two ways to get more tire on the ground. You have to go wider or taller.
With awd Going taller well help , but to a limit. Going with stagger is ok with the same tire height . (like 275-40-17 and 245-45-17)

Glen??^^^
Thanks for the info but I think your #'s are off. Need to be 40 on front and rear.

Different witdhs in the tires in no way will add stress to your drivetrain. If you get tires that are different heights then you will have problems and not just added stress. You will be saying goodbye to an axle most likely. Running skinnier tires up front makes plenty of sense. Tire witdh has a large effect for handling so it's just people experimenting with different setups. Try it and see how you like it.

I don't think anybody does this for looks or for street-driving. The only time I've seen it is for autocross (I'd guess maybe tracking too). It's not to get more traction during acceleration, b/c they already have plenty on these AWD cars (typically I see this on Evos). They do it for turning, and it makes sense for that. More traction to grip and get you through the corners, as opposed to a car like mine, that just pushes the smaller front tires through the corners. So, performance wise it's not dumb, but doing it for looks on a street car I would agree is dumb.

P.S. Austin PLEASE don't buy RPF1s. They are nice wheels, but there are already like 20 sets in town; get something unique. I beg you!

haha. I probably won't cause I'm not willing to blow $1k on wheels and tires yet.
I looked in to this. When i put my awd talon together. The idea was that I had a narrow front tire. A little easier to drive with the ruts on the freeway. Talons dont like a 275 upfront , but a 275 fits in the back.
