I know this is kind of pointless with out a vid but i will get a vid/ sound clip up asap.
But i wanted to know if there is a way to distinctly tell what it is.
I have heard alot about the timing tensioner can cause a tick.
The Lma's
or the valves
any differences in sound or tone...?
i drive a civic b16 if thats in question

Easiest thing to do would be to get a stethoscope and pin-point where the noise is coming from....
**edit... make sure to watch out for your ears when doing this...

What ever works... It's an extremely useful diagnostic tool IMO. I am not a Honda GURU by any means but every Honda that i have heard have some sort of valve-train noise...

i know, and i have read that nothing can really be damaged...its just the annoying factor, everyone that rides in it either cant hear it or say its "normal" but i cant stand it not sounding "superb" haha

if its coming form the head, just do a valve lash its the cheapest of the three. oh and btw, never heard the tensioner making a ticking noise.

Im guessing the valves need adjusted like Zex said. You can also use a length or rubber hose to listen for noises.
