this is my quest for a cheap big turbo that spools up fast. This is off the 07/08 cummins. Its a he351e VGT (variable geometry turbo). I believe lol. enough with part numbers theris a dude on HMT that put one on his 2g had ok results but he also had mega squirt no intercooler and then spun a rod before all the bugs got smoothed out.

I have dsmlink (i think its better) a way of hopefully controlling the VG thing. also an intercooler.

I sold my 60-1 to fund this project. Parts list follows as.

turbo 145
avcr 200
mani 95
exhaust pipe free
waste gate 90
actuator free (thanks josh)
alternator relocation free plus belts
mandrel bends 20 a U
um think thats all I had all the other stuff

Parts that were a bitch to make. The manifold cutting of the flange. And angling it to clear everything. Thanks dsmtuner for tigin that. It barely clears the block. Also had to cut tons of front motor mount out. Had to make the compressor cover clear the bellhousing. Then finding out how to position the actuator to clear everything and still move the VG thing. The vg thing is harder to turn than a normal flapper so I added a spring to help it. I fabbed the IC pipes and made the alternator relocation. Well besides the tigging the flange I did it all. Even th custom spray paint. The o2 housing was tough also. I had flux wire at the time and now when I made the ic pipes I bought a bottle and switched to mig. Much gooder.

there is a whole write up about it on one of the diesel forums but i didnt look hard enough. but it has a 62mm compressor wheel and a 9cm exhaust housing...roughly .65 a/r.

and also, that little shiny piece of metal around the compressor wheel in my pics can be taken out..its a anti surge housing. ;)

You dont even know lol. Its 65lbs

zex_cool funny you posted those pics. I was doing a google search and I stumbled onto those pics and forum. The thing I am worried about is the wheel extends past the cover so it might be less good idk.

Sorry I dont know but what kind of car is that on?

the pics in the link, no but the pics i posted here, yes.

its working good so far! made 320whp on 12-14psi..would have made ~350whp if i could have held the same boost level through out the rpms...stupid manifold!!

02-02-2009, 10:57 PM
wow thats bad ass. My 60-1 made 370 at 22 psi. I am excited for this.

zex_cool

i got relativly high compression, ~10.5:1 so dont get too excited. LoL

I will be stoked if it spools faster than the 60-1 and makes more than 480hp at 35 psi.

Have u found a radiator yet or figured anything out for one? I still have a boner over the turbo

d_moss
02-08-2009, 12:04 PM
No I will just make the stocker fit for now. Till I get the funds to buy one that will fit.

I am sorry about your turbo boner. After a while they just start to hurt.

I tried doing Cock pushups lately to try and exercise it so it wouldnt happen but yes, you are correct, it hurts

I started it today. all the stuff fit. I had to redo the lower charge pipe. The scirroco rad I bought didnt fit. So I made the stock rad and my old fan fit. Black 1g woundnt get out of the way so I couldnt pull it out and let it warm up. But no worries. It snowed alot here so the roads are shitty anyways. So moar updates tomorrow.

Started it and took it for a spin. I forgot to hook up the actuator so I dont thing the vg opened. No avcr in yet. The holes I welded in on the back side of the turbo weep a bit. Has a couple exhaust leaks. Something in the motor has a tick. Sounds like its from the starter area. Clicks faster as you rev it of course. So that really bugs me. I have to find out what that is.

But as of now with some exhaust leaks it spools about like the 60-1 but seems to spool faster. Like once it gets over 10 psi in half a second its at 30. The 60-1 would bite and claw and spin a bit if I brake boosted in 4th. I think this turbo would blow the tires off in 4th with out brake boosting. 1st 2nd 3rd useless. In fwd. Gonna have to put the t-case on again.

Took a ride with Dan and about dumped my pants. It was quite ridiculous. It is pretty retarded fast and I can't imagine what it will be like when he gets the bugs worked out and puts the all-wheel back on. Scary.
