Well 208Soarer (Troy) and I were out to the salvage yard yesterday to get some trim pieces and he starts saying..."OMG...OMG...OMG!!!" At first I didnt see what he was looking at but then he pointed to it and it was the holy grail...a Corolla AE86 GTS hatch that was in the "to be crushed soon" pile underneath a 89 buick POS!!! In unison we were like "holy shit!"! So in a rare bit of luck the guy was willing to sell the chassis...Of course it needs some work and is missing some stuff, but hey at least it is already stripped down for some good prep!!!
Enjoy -

dood, thats my buddy terry's old car. i hope you didnt pay more than 300 for it cuz he was sellin the shell with more parts on it for 300.
thats some funnt shit you guys picked that up. i thought you were talkin about another car when you asked for parts. and btw, my buddy terry has most of the other parts still from that shell. we of course bought all the gts coversion parts for one of our hatches from that shell.

Glad someone got some good out if it. Cause Terry wouldnt budge from selling the shell (nearly like it sits) to Troy 4 months ago for $500! Troy did pay under $300 for it but the STUPID thing was that Terry sent it to the crusher for literally nothing when he could have lowered the price on it and sent it to a good home. No offense but I think that is BS that he would rather crush an icon then come down on his price!! Not cool IMO! A real enthusiast would NEVER do that!

Just a corolla?!
Try finding a gts hatch that is straight and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....then tell us its just a corolla.
Hella good find.

Yes! Yes you do hear that!
The NA 2JZ out of the SC will be the power plant for the car.

why are you using such a heavy engine?

It will more than likely be Brian's. Annnnnddd speaking of "projects to the stable"!! If I can get this Z32 chassis I have had my eye on for quite some time now, then mine will be complete (for now anyways)!!!
Nothing nicer than a white Z32 Twin Turbo manual transmission- Well. Maybe a red one LOL :D

I don't want to do the "normal" swaps. I'm not looking to drop the dollars for the Honda transplant.
So it will be the 2J (for now).....

what are your ultimate plans for the car? drag? auto-x? drift? show?
the bigger swaps tend to really throw off the weight distribution. you can counteract with stiffer springs up front, but inevitably it won't handle like an 86 anymore.

here are some of my votes on what it should look like...

And for a motor....... 1UZFE of course. Cheap, super light, compact, sounds sexy, more power and torque than you need

or else i will have to get rid of some projects and build one..... But as you know I have enough already....

If I had to say what an "ultimate goal" would be for the car, I would say I am looking to "retro" it.
By that I mean, clean, stock(mostly), with an updated drivetrain. I didn't want one to turn it into the next "drift machine" , "show stopper" or "staight line killer". My over all goal is to be able to take it to Long Beach for the Japanese Classic Car show. I wanted the AE86 chassis, because of what it represents to me as far as the JDM lifestyle. It is as "Iconic" (IMO) in some ways as the Skyline and even some Domestics for the "Hot Rod" people.
It will take alot of time to get it where I want it to be, and I am not in any hurry what so ever. I want to finish the LS and the SC before I really start the AE86.

Manta,
Maybe something like the top 2? The kits are a liitle much for what I am wanting to do. It will be painted either Scion Grey or there is a Lexus Grey "Gunmetal" color that I am starting to like more and more. AND as much as I HATE to admit it!!! The MATTE BLACK finish really caught my eye at SEMA this past year-
as far as getting rid of any of the projects? I just don't see that happening anytime soon LOL!! I don't think I could just have ONE car to work on? it's just not me :D

i remember finding an SR redtop long block back in highschool, we snagged it up. but after it sitting on the side of the house for a few months.. we ended up taking it to a scrap yard and getting some $$$$ for the aluminum.

Doesnt matter how many youve had it depends on what youve done with them. Yeah if you want a stock one to roll around town in there are better cars out there...but if you really spend some time with one and build it up, they are one hell of a fun car!

Trust me. I WAS!!! Especially since it was the same car I had already looked at over three months previous and paid sooooooooo much less for it now!! (In the same condition as it was going to be sold to me by the previous owner when I had looked at it)
