camera faq

I'm going to japan in a few days and am debating on whether or not to get a new camera. I have an old nikon coolpix 5700 with a couple lenses but it's so old I'm thinking even a new low range camera might be better. I don't know anything about photography so I just want a camera that takes good pics and maybe something that I can grow into and learn more. Basically what features are important (mega pixels, zoom, etc.) and I don't want to spend too much yet. Anyone that knows more than me is welcome to give me the basics.

get a film camera with a 50mm, you wont regret it.
or if your willing to drop 500, go for the D3000.

Right now im working with the Canon Rebel XSi... its a really good intro camera. Im learning a ton of shit with it right now

I have an Olympus E-500. It takes nice pics, but im not that good with it. Definitely nothing compared to other people on here.
