Just like the title says Im looking to see how busy I could keep and AWD Mustang dyno here in Boise. As of right now the only ones I know of that are open to the public are in Portland, and Salt Lake. So how about it would there be intrest from self tuners and others?

Yeah, I wouldn't use one since I do RWD...
There are a good amount of Talon, evo, sti guys around that could use it... but not me...

i don't think there would be much interest for one. there just aren't enough people around here at all to support any shops, let alone a dyno. there are a few 2wd dynos around here, and i don't think they get used much either.

they actually get a lot of use around here....just not by import guys. (just look around at how used and wore out the local dyno's are...u dont get that by not using them) lots of muscle car guys, drag racers, guys that race at meridian speedway, quads, diesels, etc etc. im sure there is a lot of interest in a awd dyno from the diesel guys (they have to drive to poki for the nearest one) but those will not fit cars like evo's and subi's and dsm's etc etc. also you dont HAVE to have an awd car to dyno on an awd dyno. so yes there is always interest in having another dyno option in town....you just need to get in touch with the guys that actually use them.

Yea, I suppose Brandon is right.
What is your whole goal with the AWD dyno? Do you plan/have a shop now to put it in? Offering tuning services? ect?
it sounded like he was hinting towards a group buy or something. sounded like that to me anyways. we are just going to have to wait for some rich guy with a shop to buy one and hope the prices are not too outrageous.

The goal is to just have one closer than 6-8 hours in either direction. There is a huge area not covered with decent services. As ar as a full shop with tuning services that would be a consideration. Mostly just rent the dyno out to self tuners and do some side tuning for the Evo / Subie crowd.

No group buy Ill be buying the dyno and shop lol and prices wont be too bad much cheaper than a 6 hour drive + tuning fees.

your best bet for an awd mustang dyno is to gear it towards diesels. there are not enough evo/subi/dsm guys that will actually pay for dyno tuning. i have tried to get lots of the import guys to pony up the $150-200 an hour charge (even offering my tuning services for free) to get on the "nicer" mustang/dynojet/dynapak dyno's in town and its litterally like pulling teeth. BUT since i get $50 unlimited time on the most broke down dyno in town, it seems to be the most popular choice. (and i pitch it like a freakin used car salesman in order to get people to pony up the damn $50) bottom line is the import tuner crowd is cheap and will not pay to support something like an awd dyno. sad, but true.

Did you have a shop here before?
Ive been in the car scene for almost 15 years between here and Portland and Boise has always got the shaft for support. Ive always wondered if the scene would get bigger here if there were more support or if there is no support because there is no scene. Chicken or the egg scenerio.
I know auto cross is picking up speed in these parts plus people are pulling more from drag racing and turning attention to skills like drifting etc...
I have been tempted to buy up one of the old mills or airports (Something of the sort with lots of room and paved area) so that I could set up some sort of course for people to practice on. The key is keeping it inexpensive enough for the masses to afford. Kind of a seasons pass setup like Bogus has. Pay me $199 and go for the year all you want. Be a nice way to keep street racing down and give people a place to go and thrash their cars. Liability wavers would be a must and parental consent for those under 18 but for the most part pretty chill envirionment with an onsite shop and dyno depending on interest.

You're on an enthusiast site. Gaging interest in a place like this is like asking the Klan if they're down for a lynchin.
Finding people with a fat wallet as big as their mouth is another matter.

That would be interesting. A local track would be sweet! Im sure a lot of people from this site would use it.

That is for sure. Track sounds like a better idea than a dyno, but the dyno is needed before you take it to the track.

as long as its the same price as a season pass to bogus or less then i'm sure people in the area could afford it.

I would love being able to have a test track. Spending some time practicing would be really really exciting and helpful and I am sure supported by many members.

I would help in any way possible if anyone ever tried to turn an area like an abandoned airport into a track/practice spot. I would be willing to put any time and as much money as possible into it. I'm sure some sort of track for grip and drifting would help Boise's scene grow a lot.

And you'd have a(nother) place to go drifto.

no i dont have a shop. i do all my work out of my garage. IF i thought there was enough support in this area to start up a "tuning" shop, i could do so easily as my dad owns 2 shops downtown. but alas, the "scene" around boise is wack and has been for the last 3-4 years.
the idea of a track has been beat to death around here for the last 10 years or so....lots of talk, zero action. there arent any abandoned airports around here, nor are there empty paved lots. trust me when i say the SCCA has explored EVERY option when it comes to this. there are just no places that already exist to spawn a track/practice facility from. the SCCA has been trying for years to lock down its own place and has failed. its to the point where you either spend 1+ million to build your own "parking lot" or just keep renting the idaho center and expo idaho for 1k a pop.
it is what it is.

I just came here looking for this exact thing. I need an AWD dyno since I'm trying to get before and afters on my X5 before I do an intake swap.

That would be sick. I got spoiled w/ the "scene" in Seattle vs here. It's ike pulling teeth just to get a BMW meet together and have more than 5 people show up, yet in a rainy ass area like Seattle, it was like clockwork to get easily 20 people or more together to take bi weekly drives through the mountain roads. It'd be nice to have a place for us biking crowd to go and stunt as well.

I'm originally from Seattle, so maybe I can tow it to Seattle w/ me when I go there to dyno my X5. I've used a place in Kirkland called Carb Connection before, good guys.
