I have a stock 91 crx si. I was driving two days ago just cruising down the highway when all of a sudden my car cutout and rolled to a stop. It turns over but doesn't start. It's not the fuel so it has to be spark. I checked the coil and main relay and they're both good. Now I'm stuck on finding the igniter and testing it. Anyone know where and how to test the igniter?

Igniters are in the distributor. They are the thin metal card type box that has 4 wires plugged into it. There is no sure fire accurate way to test an igniter. The best thing to do is swap a known good igniter in its place.

I did clean all the electrical plugs going to anything towards the distributor and checked for poor looking wiring but it was all clean. I don't think it's the belt cause the exhaust puffs when it turns over but I didn't check the compression. The car is an hour away at my cousins so it's a pain to hitchhike to. Also, my plug wires are newer but I can't seem to get the wires off the plugs. Maybe it's cause I'm on Maui and the air is salty. Any good ideas on braking the plugs loose? I went to napa for an igniter but there's none on the islands they say. I have to order one from the mainland but it's only 50 bucks through them.

I got my car up and running again. The funny thing is that nothing was really wrong with it. I ordered an igniter and when i pulled the cap and coil off to replace it, I noticed the rotor didn't have a bolt and was spinning freely from the distributor. Put a bolt in and it fired right up. My plugs and wires are napa brand I think and I still can't get them to break lose.

hahaha. that is another common problem. Ive herd that happen to many people. They would be driving along and the car would turn off. Screw backs itself out.
