So, tomorrow comes the day I get myself some new wheels (Rims & Tires) for my S60.

Here are some things I'm still undecided over.

Whether or not I should get 17 or 18" wheels.

I've had numerous debates with Mirko about the subject.

Yes, 17" are usually as big as you want to go without overdoing it, but the Volvo has HUGE wheel wells, and the S60 comes STOCK with the Pegasus 18" wheels, and IPD (Which I'll show some pics here soon) make wheels with VMS that only come in 18" option.

Also, I need the wheels within the next 3 weeks. So whether I go and pick them up somewhere, or order them online, I need them in the next 3 weeks, because I need new tires for the coming trips to Boise.

Which brings me to my last requirement, tires must be All-Season.

Also. My budget for everything is roughly $1,000... Give or take a few hundred over if need be.

So, here are the two wheels I've sorted it down to. Let me know if you guys like either of them, and further more, if there are any other wheels out there that you guys would suggest over these two. (My bolt pattern is 5x108)

17x7.5" Sport Edition - CE Model - $114 a rim - Purchasable online at Tirerack.com
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/sportedition/swap/se_ce_s_ci3_l.jpg

18x8" VMS - IPD Edition - $178 a rim - Purchasable in person at IPDUSA
http://www.ipdusa.com/uploads/images_skus/13957.jpg

So again. Vote on either one or throw out some good ideas. Whatever wheels I do end up getting, I plan on replacing the caps with the black Volvo emblem, so I don't care about getting replicas honestly. Again, please stick to the budget I've set, and YES, shortly after getting the new wheels, I plan on getting a set of Eibach springs for a nice clean drop :)

THANKS!

By the way, this is what 18" wheels look like for those that are skeptical.

And these are 17" wheels. (Exactly what my car looks like, just different wheels is all)

I like the CSL replicas (the 2nd ones) because they are concave... A FWD does not really need lip so concave is a perfect option...

The second ones are way better. 17s will look stupid unless your car is slammed. Buy some springs at the same time.

If you're gonna troll and say shit like how I should get different wheels, you have two hours to show me what I SHOULD get...

Otherwise I'm leaning towards the VMS 18x8 wheels with 235/40/18 Eagle GT tires.

A couple of these threads are really old, but all of these wheels are WAY cooler than what you posted. The top on the list are newest, and get older as you go down.

1st ones are cool, but out of my price range. But practically the same as the VMS wheels.

The 2nd ones are fucking nasty. I would never put them on a newer luxury car. Sorry.

3rd ones are a little too Mexican for me, but if they came in silver, still not a fan of the multi-step lip.

Again, no on the 4th ones.

No on 5th ones cuz of huge mexi-dish.

And 6th ones look too tuner-ish... I prefer the mesh look...

Thanks for the suggestions and looking around! The 1st ones hold the closest to my heart, but just a bit too much...

DubstepDave
11-03-2009, 10:33 AM
huge mexi-dish? wtf are you talking about? you mean having wheels with cool offset and some actual lip? the second wheels are AWESOME, I would rock the SHIT out of them, and the third are KINESIS, how the fuck are those mexican? the fourth are OZ Futura's, which are rare in ANY bolt pattern, ESPECIALLY in gay volvo patterns.

and i thought you were a mega baller Pat?

polishpat
11-03-2009, 10:45 AM
I don't remember being a mega baller. You must not remember me very well.

But maybe you like those wheels on older blocky cars, but show me those same wheels on newer sleaker euros, and tell me it doesn't look a little "off".

But like I said, if you like 'em, that's fine, I personally don't like the look of them. I'm more of a mesh kind of guy, and I do like lips, but only if it's a machined mirror lip finish... No bigger than 2" thick, yknow...

DubstepDave
11-03-2009, 11:00 AM
i seem to remember how you were bragging about making $40-something an hour dj'ing and about how cool of a lolvo you were going to buy. come on baller-pat, get some cool ramz dawg. and the two that you posted are NOT cool. you will look like every other volvo driving douche with some gay shitty wheels.

polishpat
11-03-2009, 11:06 AM
And if I get those super cool rimz bro, I'll just look like every other 80's blocky Volvo out there.

I agree with you on the Max Sport wheels, those are cheap, and for a reason, but the VMS wheels, those are legit.

Besides, super thick multi-level lip screams douchebag more than a nice set of subtle mesh wheels. Seriously.

zenkiderek

1st, 2nd, and 6th were the only ones that i could view pics of and i think the are all rad. 2nd - best, 1st - second, 6th- 3rd.

IMO wheels/lowness are what make or break a car. Skyjacked cars don't look aggressive, and cheap wheels look unoriginal and unappealing.

A car can be beat up or bone stock, but if it has at least a decent drop and nice wheels it can be one of the raddest cars on the street.

I'm sorry, but you wasted your money. And I'm not trying to be an asshole right now, those just don't look good. Maybe when you lower it, it might look a little better, but S60R wheels would have been a better choice, IMO.

polishpat

Yeah, I'm thinking about all of things. Glad we're all on the same page :)

Tinting may happen sometime this week as it's the cheapest of the 3.

Tinting shops here in Oregon are so much cheaper than the ones in Boise. I can have my whole car done to the legal limit for only $150. And a lifetime warranty.

As for the springs, I'm thinking just a 1.3" drop with some $270 Eibach springs from IPD.

Color matching the trim is something I'm a little scared of. I'd want pros to do the job, but I'm scared that the paint will look brand new compared to the 7 year old paint next to it.

Some other little things I'd like to do in the future is to get the T5 Volvo Sport Spoiler, and color match it (I can order it pre-painted from the factory for just under $300. Not bad, right?)

And MAYBE paint the 4 calipers red, and putting the white (Or silver?) Volvo name on the two front calipers (My old roomate Emilee had that with her Acura TL TypeS and I loved the look... The R also does that with their calipers, but it says R instead of the TL saying Acura)

What do you guys think?

spastik
11-03-2009, 11:00 PM
if not color matching, back to black. them shits faded

polishpat
11-03-2009, 11:10 PM
Yknow. Mirko and I have tried doing the back to black idea in the past, but it didn't help much at all...

I think that's just the color it's supposed to be, cuz it DOES match the trim in the car as well...

Then again maybe Mirko and I didn't apply enough back to black to the trim. I'll definitely give it another go tomorrow...

spastik
11-03-2009, 11:14 PM
or spray paint bumper black, but mask it off real good. makes a HUGE difference

polishpat
11-03-2009, 11:31 PM
What if I tried the black rubber spray paint that the '07 VW GTI used on his wheels...

Also, little known trick, if you ever do any spraypainting and accidentally get it on the car or something along those lines, using the Mr Clean Eraser Sponges will clean the spray paint right off, even if it's dry. Saved my butt once when Mirko, Vlad, and I were having a hay-day with spray paint on my civic's trim. haha

You should try to get your hands on a set of the Pegasuses wheels By far one of my favorite oem wheels

polishpat
11-04-2009, 11:56 PM
Well, I've already spent money on the ones I just got from IPD.

IPD also sells the replicas of the Pegasus and those are $200 a pop if I remember right, but they have the R logo, and it irks me that I try to turn my car into an R, when suspension, engine, and body styling-wise, it isn't an R haha

But I agree with you. They are very nice OEM wheels.

EDIT: Also, just measured my gap between tire and fender, and went from 3.5" gap to 2" gap after new wheels. If I get the Eibach springs, I'll be just above the fender like I want 'em :)

Starting to look pretty good, I would say don't paint the calipers. If anything just paint them flat black so you don't notice them if they are an ugly color now. The drop will be a great touch.

Thanks for the positive feedback :)

On the topic of the calipers, I had a talk with Spastiik last night, and he as well said red is good for sports cars or if their the Brembo brakes and such, but black will look a lot cleaner... And I agree... This is what the TL Type-S looks like...

http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/0/o/jf_07acuratls_wheelbrk.jpg

And then this is what the S60 R calipers look like...

http://linewavemedia.com/Photos/car10.jpg

So my question is, should I do a mix of it, and either paint my calipers silver or black? And also, should I order the VOLVO lettering, and put it on my front two calipers?

This is the kit I plan on using from IPD.

http://www.swedishautoparts.com/shop/catimages/Volvo-CaliperPaint.jpg

And this is what I plan on the VOLVO lettering looking like (Except in either silver, red, or black... And of course no 'R') And what's shown below is on the rear calipers... The front ones shown above are much bigger, and would look less condensed with the VOLVO lettering on it... The ones shown below are of the rear calipers...

Once the aforementioned modifications are done to the car, I think the additional lettering would detract from the overall "clean" appearance.

Limited knowlage. I know you are new to cars Pat, but this thread shows that you don't really want to learn. Instead of heeding the advise given to you in this thread, you decided to by wheels from IPD. I did the same thing with I was wee lil-noob. My point is, is that the IPD catalog is an expensive way to do things to your car, that won't really make you car all that unique or fast.

Right now, I am saving up to do some things to my car. I figure they will cost me ~$1200. None of them are for sale from IPD.

Buy the way. Head over to volvospeed.com to see what other guys are doing to their cars. I am glad you didn't get the pegs, as they are lame and played out on every p1 and p2 car.

polishpat
12-26-2009, 01:53 AM
Well I know IPD isn't the only supplier and fabricator of parts out there, there are several companies. Hell, I've even looked into companies that are based in Sweden and have had to use Google Translate in order to see their products.

Now to my next question, how does ordering the VMS wheels from IPD, wheels that I love over anything else out there nonetheless, not help me stand out from the rest of the Volvos out there, if not even all the Euros. Taking the advise of others on here, such as getting some "baller" BBS REPLICAS with huge dishes, or outlandish mesh patterns, wouldn't set me apart from the rest of the Volvos/Euros out there, no would I be able to maintain a luxurious/sporty look. I'd look like every other wannabe baller out there.

And don't worry, I'm not shopping around to try and look for the cheapest products out there (Because I wouldn't have a Volvo in the first place, I'd have another Jap car) I'm looking for best and most reliable, and if it comes from IPD, more power to me, considering the savings in shipping costs when I live minutes away from the warehouse.

Remember the crazy smoking issue coming from the car? Was it burnt rubber? Burn coolant? Some other fluid? Who knows. Mechanics in Boise told me it was dust. The only Volvo dealership in Idaho told me it would cost $100 an hour to inspect. I got no answers from forums. Then a quick stop to IPD in person, and Jeremy inspects the car for free, and then figures out the issue instantaneously, and then charges me $70 an hour to replace the Power Steering Pump.

And I've been to VolvoSpeed, but prefer SwedeSpeed as it has a larger, more tight-knit community, who also have partnerships with EST, IPD, and other companies, so I can get discounts, as well as quick and easy communication via forums to various Volvo company staff.

Some of the wheels mirko posted are r/c car wheels lol. And pat, it's better you have those wheels rather than some dished BBS', you couldn't handle em anyway.

HA! Funny you show this, Alyssa pointed it out the other day cuz she drove past it (Parked out front of this small dealership on Fairview), so I test drove it yesterday... They wouldn't go lower than $14k, which was sad, cuz it's an '04 with average miles and ZERO sports options. I would have swooped it up if they would have budged a bit more, but all well.

...And I personally attack you because I love you :)
