the edited version looks properly exposed, the unedited version does not (even though it was technically a correct exposure). you want to bring out detail in the shadow areas, and for portraits you generally want softer more natural skin tones, which is what charles achieved there.

Here's a super sneak peek of how far I really am into photography, I have just finished my first ad shoot. This is the Mustang Cafe they have been installing recently in the new dealerships. The shots are dictated by the client and I really don't have much freedom with it, my job here was basically to get a very well lit and exposed imagine, which I have feel like I have clearly demonstrated, I'm sure it will be retouched by the website team for later usage though. I really hope things take off from here, My next big ad so far is shooting the Arizona Cardinals team.

Then at least make it realistic since that just ruins the shot. Fake glare, fake shadows can work but they have to be VERY subtle.

With the IPS monitors, you can see gray areas you wouldnt be able to see with a normal monitor.

How are you doing your color saturation and correction? Are you using curve and level layers?

Carrera looks sweet.

Also an IPS monitor is useless without proper color matching calibration. I have looked at that image on my work monitor (color calibrated), my macbook pro (color calibrated) and an uncalibrated 24 Acer monitor at home and they all have that shadow way outside of the range of the rest of the colors. Looks like a bad use of "Ovarlay" layer set to create a fake shadow.

When working with "fake" shadows you need to realize that the dark cast that a shadow creates implies serious de-saturation properties which is probably what you forgot.

The only reason I am going in-depth on this is because that is an amazing image and you have managed to use shitty beginner techniques to ruin the overal clean concept.

On a 2nd pass the shadows on the Carrera are pretty far out there. It seems like a nice composite image with multiple exposures but you need to pay attention to shadows.
