Ive got a 70 someodd beetle who's headlight relay is dying. Its model is 411-941-583C and I want to just outright rewire a newer style relay in there since I have handfuls of those laying around and places want up to $50 for a new relay like this one!
Anybody know a good way to do this? I can't find much googling, so hopefully one of you guys know.

Most relays have a little picture of the schematics on the side, just find a new one with the same amperage and follow the schematics. One for a headlight should be pretty simple. I have some schematics drawn up that I'll try to find

Yeah I saw it on there, but looks like there was a resistor in the line... could be wrong, since it was pretty scuffed up and missing some of the diagram. Does that sound right?

Any regular newer headlight relay will be fine. There will be a 12v constant input, a ground, and a output, and your "trigger" input from the switch. Super easy to wire in and will probably output more light than with your stock relay if you wire each headlight to a separate relay.

66 and older was 6v, ya to get rid of the nos vw part you need 2 relays. When i was doing my baja i just got the part due to making life easier but im sure you can find an install on thesamba.com

HA! I took apart the relay and found the problem. The spring inside was just too weak to pull the arm all the way back up. Coulnd't figure out a better way, so I just put the last spring coil on the little arm perch instead of the actual loop. Works like a charm ;)
Also, seems the turn signal relay started going out, but I happened to have a Chrylser relay of some sort that fit and worked fine. Pride myself knowing that at least SOME mopar is going into a VW I worked on...

hahaha, nice. be glad that you don't have a '67 with the one year only turn signal/ flasher relay. i had to do some major work to mine to get it working (lots of soldering and resistor replacement).
