So from some basic research I think I know how to debadge a car easily and make it look good... But I can't find how to reattach badges the proper way...

Any help on the subject? Any further insight on how to properly debadge / rebadge?

What I want to do is debadge the S60 lettering off (And keep it off), as well as the VOLVO lettering, and rebadge the VOLVO lettering with spacing between it, just like the new '09 models of Volvos have them...

Thanks in advance!

usually after you pull the badges its hard to get them back on..... getting new one's would be the easiest... but you can get some 3m double sided tape.... the red stuff and a sharp razor and some time and i guess you can reuse the badges you pulled off....

Luxury Car + Patrick + Sharp Razor = Epic Failure

I've read that slightly heating the badges, say, a hair dryer, for a few seconds on and off as to not burn the paint, and then use floss or 20 lb fishing line will do the trick...

...I don't trust myself with a razor, or a flat-head screwdriver to pry away the badges hahaha

Reapplying would be best with heavy duty 3m double sided tape though?

yea fishing line and some goo gone and a little muscle is all I have ever used to take them off... I have never heated them up but I don't see it hurting...

and yea the 3m tape is the best for re applying it...

Well then. Thank you good sir! If tomorrow is a sunny day, then I'll probably do it tomorrow then...

And yes, I'm going to make a straight line horizontal border with blue tape prior to removing so I know where to properly replace the badges again on an invisible line so they won't be all over the place or crooked or something jewish...

you won't be able to do it it pat... you can debadge it but rebadging it is going to suck ass and it won't look good/precise...

Just debadge the S60 and leave "volvo" where it is.

Can you eBay the new style letters? Then you wouldn't have to sweat trying to re-apply the old ones.

A blow dryer is not gonna damage the paint. You can do that or I have always just used a credit card. No heat required.

What does me saying, "I'm making a horizontal line out of the blue masking tape." not make sense to you?

With a straight across line, say, under the lettering from left to right, and I can mark on the tape where I want to put the lettering evenly spaced apart, and then use the tape to flush my lettering aligned horizontally as well. y'know?

Oh and by the way, just realized this might clear up a bit of confusion...

The pic is at an angle so it doesn't show it well, but the lettering are all individualized... They're not all connected by a piece of plastic or metal or anything...

So I can debadge and rebadge each individual letter separately...

Yeah, but you won't get it perfect. I will put money down that it just won't look right... lol

With reapplying the silicone you will probably mess something up and it won't be that clean of a job. Let me know what you realize this so I can get a kick out of :)

Do you read any of the previous posts, or your Serbian mouth just keeps randomly talking and doesn't shut up...

No silicone involved.

Heavy duty 3m double sided tape will do the trick for reapplying the badges.

P.S.

Let me know what you realize this so I can get a kick out of :)

Alrighty, so since today was a nice sunny day, I went ahead and did it. I'll have pics up soon when I can find my camera, but it looks PERFECT. And sexy as FUCK!

Here's what I did...

*Applied automotive tape from one end of the trunk to the other flushed alongside under the VOLVO lettering, to use as a ruler for when reapplying

*Heated the badges with a hair dryer on high heat for about maybe 30 seconds per letter

*Thought outside the box and used a retractable badge holder as a line to put behind the badges and saw it's way through the adhesive material.

*Once all badges were removed (All 8 individual letters for S60 & VOLVO), botched on goo-gone and let sit for a while.

*Use my plastic drivers license to scrape away the leftover thick adhesive without scratching the paint

*Botched on another coat of goo-gone 2 or 3 more times and used cotton rag to wipe away and clean off the excess adhesive material.

*Use another cloth with soap and water to clean the area and get all dirt removed as well as making sure adhesive was completely gone.

*Did two or 3 coats of wax on the area and cleaned the area further and to help smooth the 7 year color difference together

*After those coats of wax on, wax off, you can't even tell any badges were there whatsoever

*Then for the VOLVO letters, cleaned them nicely and made sure they were dry before cutting the 3m Heavy Duty Double Sided Adhesive, and applying to the back end

* Using the automotive tape that I had applied at the very beginning, I used as a rule to reapply each of the VOLVO letters one at a time (Emilee watched part of the process and laughed at me and said not to mis-spell it and put OVLOV or something hahaha)

Easy as that. I took time. And A LOT of patience to make sure that everything was done correctly, and more importantly, perfectly, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Simply perfect.

Again, I'll have pics up here soon enough! Thanks for some of the initial advise and help from several of you on here :)

...That and FUCK YOU, MIRKO! :D

So. I finally got around to taking a few quick snapshots of the finished work, and I still stand by how happy I am with it... And even after 2 weeks of hot weather and even two car washes, lettering HASN'T fallen off or moved (So FUCK YOU, Mirko :p)

And a little story for today. Went to go skating the greenbelt with Blackie this morning, and while I was putting on my skates, a jogger that was stretching out was checking out the car and comes up to me and tells me how nice the car is and asks if it's the new '09 model.

I started laughing my ass off, and Blackie got a little chuckle out of it too, but I explained to the guy how I debadged the S60 and rebadged the Volvo lettering and I just gave a 'facelift' for my '02 model... He said he really really liked how it turned out so nice and sleek and said he's jealous cuz he has an '08 xc90, but loves the new look of the '09 lettering... I laughed and told him, Lettering aside, his car is still worth $30k more than mine, so I'm the jealous one... He said he might have to do the same thing one of these days haha

Yeah. </boringStory> :p
