2001 2.4 DOHC motor. dont know anything about these..
story: car was driving fine with no know issues. got off the freeway and about a mile down the road it dies. it made a really weird noise, something like air compressor letting air out. it threw a CEL for a camshaft positioning sensor. replaced the sensor but the CEL is still there. checked compression its at 0-30psi on all 4 cylinders?? my dad wants to pull the head but but fuck, im lazy!!
~140,000 miles on the clock.

Prolly. If it truley is, it already bent all the valves, so of course it cranks fine now.

Sorry to hear that. Dodge motors are awesome. We had a customer with the 2.7L v6 that went to crap at 90k miles. There is an inherent problem with the 2.7's. Check around on the dodge forums and see if the 2.5 has any major known issues and pull the upper timing belt/chain cover and see if it is still connected and go from there.

The 2.4 is not an interference motor. Definately a broken belt. Check the water pump while you have it apart, they are almost always leaking. Shoulda just called me you noob

yeah, i should have, but i thought you were pissed at me still for calling Darren's wife a Nazi whore. LoL
anyways, we took the head off finally and i have to say what a P.I.T.A. it was. it checked out fine but we just havent had the time to put it all back together. i told my dad about the water pump and he'll be getting a new one tomorrow. thanks!
is there any tricks we should know about when putting the t-belt back? i havent looked at the manual but i haven't seen any marks on the crank pulley..

depending on the year, the crank gear will have either a small cutout or a triangle on the flat backside of the gear, and it lines up with a triangle timing mark on the oil pump. install the belt, starting at the crank, counterclockwise taking the slack out as you go. the timing marks on the cam gears are straight lines that are supposed to line up with each other. in other words, if you put a straight edge accros the cam gears, straight accross the center of the bolts, the lines on the cam gears would be right next to each other and follow the straight edge.

Scott's right. 2.4 = non interference, luckily. They are pretty easy engines to work on.
Hey Scott, do you know if my beloved 2.5L SOHC Turbo is non-interference? I have looked around but never found my answer.

Sweet! Thanx man! I knew the neon engines real well (and the 2.4L was swapped enough to be a neon engine. lol), but I don't have much info on this one. I also did put the G-head on it, which lowers compression... so if it was interference before, its possible it isn't anymore! :D

I will see what info I can find. Not sure. Did the 2.5 have popup pistons? I would think if they were flat you are ok.

They are more like dish pistons. But the lift on those old 8V heads were quite a bit... Again, I'm guessing its non-intrfrnc, but just wanted an "official" word.

didnt have time to do much research today. the 2.5 is non interference. The 2.4 is non interference so.......... pretty sure its safe to say your combo is non interference. You used a 2.4 dual cam head correct?
