Year:1966
Make: Austro Vau (1965 Chassis)
Model: Solo Vee (started life as a Formula Vee)
Modifications: 1915 VW Motor, Hydraulic Clutch, light 12 lb flywheel, Aluminum Wheels.
Description: This is my Autocross / Hillclimb Car. Consistenly running for Top time of the day and Just ran Freeze out in 1:37.642. It is set up for F-Modified in SCCA Autocross but there is still room for improvement. I still have drum brakes and a steering box as I have not converted to disc brakes and a Steering Rack.
Converting to rack and pinion would be about $300 as all parts are available from Empi. Converting to discs would be about $1500 but all the parts are available for bolt on.
Car weighs right at 830 lbs with no driver. You are allowed to weight 1050 with driver so a light guy could ballast for even better handling. I weigh 260 so no ballast needed.
A new set of slicks costs about $800 and I go through 1 set every 2 years. Brakes are stock VW drums and the shoes cost about $20 for all 4 wheels. The 1915 engine was just built and has 10 autocross runs and 6 runs up the hill. It will be god for as long as you want to run it. You can go to a bigger Carb (currently Weber IDF 40 with 34mm chokes) but it runs great.
Clutch disc and pressure plate a stock VW, flywheel is the 12 pound model as thats what the rules say you can use. the motor can come out of the car in an hour and the clutch can be changed with the motor still in the car.
Car has been very reliable over the years and only broke when I did stupid things to it (like over revving it on downshift). New Odessy battery just installed and I have a full set of rain tires for it as wheel. Comes with a trailer that can be towed behind anything. the total weight of car and trailer is 1300 lbs.
Car is set up for driver about 5'10" but roll bar is designed for people up to 6'6" and there is losts of room in the cockpit.
Asking Price: $3500.00 or ??????
