FIREBIRD FAIL!

I am a big dragracing fan. I am a frequent visitor to Firebird, wether i'm racing, crewing, or spectating. I always have a good time no matter the event.

The one thing that really pissed me off was when I called the News'(track owners) to inquire if they were going to allow the now NHRA sanctioned ATV class. The reply was "No, we don't feel like these vehicles should be racing on the track because they were designed for offroad use, but we suggest you enjoy your ATV in the environment it was designed for" HORSE SHIT, isn't this an obvious contradiction. Why the fuck do you run fucking SLEDS? Are they designed to run on paved surfaces? HMMMMM!

Many tracks around the country are allowing this class. I personally don't want to drive to Gooding to run my quad on an 1/8th mile track. Some may be fine with that.

This is just Firebird. They own it they can do what they want. I know of other racers whom have issues with the operators. Those are their issues this was mine.

I will continue to frequent the track, because of the love I have for racing!

Personally, I hate the sleds. I would certainly be even more irritated if I had to sit and wait for a bunch of atv's to run before I got to make another pass.

I am a firm believer in racing equality. If you wanna race, race no matter what it is. Patience is a virtue.

I like to see JR.s run as much as Nitro. I watched Chad King (JR National Champ.) Go from a little "5hp" briggs to a 9 sec rail. Some of these kids are the next Force, or Big Daddy. I guess i like the involvement of everybody like a big Horsepower party.

I respect quality builds and driving skills no matter what the vehicle is or who the person is.

I have lots of issues with the way firebird is ran and this is just one more to add to the list.



The races put on at firebird are not typically for viewing pleasure but are for you the driver and that is why there is never a large crowd in the stands. Only events like nightfire nationals bring out huge crowds. Everyone has a right to race no matter how slow or annoying it is to you. If you do not wish to see slow cars then do not go to events that cater to these folks otherwise just go sit in your pit and wait like everyone else.

Many vehicles start out at 18s and over time eventually hit pro classes. You have to have a progression. It is about fun. If you want to see fast cars go to pro oriented races, or street machine nats. Many races there are close to no 15sec cars.

So organize an event. Get a bunch of rednecks to bring their quads out to some flat dirt area and have yourself a drag race. Easy. And its not in the way of the cars at the strip.


I also dont mind the Jr dragsters too much, but I do believe they should NOT be racing at a bigger event. Keep it to the gold cup only days, not the other events that bring out more people.

It wouldn't be hard to run them and that's why I think it's just obsurd they won't. Put them in with the snow/bikes and that's it.

I ran against this one in Vegas and it was faster than my bike so I don't see why some of you wouldn't mind seeing motorcycles but not atvs.

Racing is racing. It doesnt matter if its a 24 second vehicle or a 10 second one... just because you are not a pro football player doesnt mean you can't play football.

With that said, I think they should allow it. But first, they need to figure out how to get more people through faster and be more efficient. Its pretty bad that nearly every time I go, I get about an average of 1 run every 2 hours.

If they're leaking fluids, tech should catch it. If they don't, blame tech for doing a shitty job. You want barriers? Go to a different event that caters to faster cars and more seasoned racers. If you show up to the high school drags, you should expect to be staged next to Mom's minivan.

ATV's should be allowed -if- properly equipped. Once again, it's techs duty to turn those away that are say caked in mud and brush that have the potential to contaminate the track surface.

you don't get very many runs because of the managment not because of slow cars. It is very easy to run street cars through the lanes quickly when done right because they have zero prep for runs. Faster cars typically take longer because they have so much prep plus they break way more often than 18 second cars.


I went to a night fever last year which caters specifically to street legal vehicles only and within 4 or 5 hours I got 10 runs iirc and it only cost 20 or 25 bucks. It's an awesome test n' tune day if you are street legal since on regular test n' tune days you only get like 4 runs max.

the answer to this is pretty simple. the NHRA does not have a class for ATV's so firebird will not let them race because they are an NHRA governed track. they have to follow the NHRA's guidlines or loose their partnership. so until the NHRA allows ATV's to race, you wont see them at firebird.

so in short, firebird does not fail, The National Hot Rod Association fails.


as for the rest of firebirds operations....they offer a LOT more chances to race, and a LOT more events to attend then they did 15 years ago, or hell even 3 years ago. they are stepping up little by little.

and if you are a 10 second import, you WILL NOT race a 20 second import. they split the classes last year.

Its null and void for me now anyway, I fekked my quad up at Big Willow. I wanted to drag cause hills get me in trouble! I was working on it but gave up when I called firebird. I have many friends with bigbore quads that are quick but now I don't have one and I don't ride much anymore. If its not one thing its another. I may build a drag only quad in the future.

I'm sure if you showed up wit a purpose built ATV theyed let you run at least a test n tune, im sure other racers would support it, it would cause quite a stir!

If any ATV guys try to stand up to firebird so they can race I will help petition for them and i'm sure the rest of the bike guys would too but most likely we won't see any atvs trying to make passes. What I think should be petitioned is for firebird to allow motorcycles to run in club races and high school races. There is absolutely no reason for them not allowing it and the only explanation I can think of is the cars bitch that we can sandbag easier. Which is a very false statement as my bike is way harder to keep consistent than it is in a car. The sleds on the other hand.... those guys can sandbag like mofos and it's pisses me off

fwiw a LOT of club racers run slow cars (in the 16-20 second range) because they are sooo consistant....thats what wins bracket racing and we arent talking POS cars either...we are talking bone stock autos (last weekend i got beat by a chick in a auto mini cooper S running 17.2's)...so essentially you would all but eliminate bracket racing...should we get rid of throttle stops too?

and also when a 8 second car takes out a motor and oils down the track...its MUCH more of a mess than a guy that dumped dirt out of the bed of his 1973 ford truck.

IMO the slow cars pay to keep the track open for us fast guys to race...
